HoDEP supports vulnerable refugee and host-community learners through school fees, scholastic materials, mentorship, Christian discipleship, and environmental stewardship.
Context
Why this work matters.
Imvepi Refugee Settlement hosts more than 73,000 refugees, primarily from South Sudan and Congo, many of whom face major barriers to quality education.
Orphans, child-headed families, and children from extremely poor households are at high risk of dropping out because of school costs, limited materials, trauma, and poverty.
HoRiSS established HoDEP to bridge this gap through academic support, Christian discipleship, mentorship, and care for creation.
Objectives
- •Pay school fees and provide essential scholastic materials for identified vulnerable learners.
- •Nurture spiritual growth, moral values, and life skills through discipleship and mentorship.
- •Support holistic development through fellowship activities and environmental stewardship.
- •Strengthen hope among refugee and host-community families through education access.

Beneficiaries
106 direct learners: 74 in secondary school and 32 in six primary schools within Imvepi Refugee Settlement, plus families, peers, church fellowships, and surrounding communities.

- 106 learners are currently supported to remain in school.
- Beneficiaries receive academic support, mentorship, Christian values formation, and essential learning materials.
- Families and communities benefit indirectly as children remain engaged in education and positive development.
The project is sustained through committed partner support, careful selection of vulnerable learners, mentorship structures, and integration with schools and church fellowships.

Creative Learning Haven is HoRiSS’s community library and resource center in Imvepi Refugee Settlement, designed to provide academic resources, encourage reading, promote creative thinking, and create a safe learning space for children, youth, women, and families.

Women Group Livelihood
The Women Group connects Creative Learning Haven with refugee women and out-of-school girls through literacy, craft-making, and business training designed to support self-reliance.
