Why this work matters

The Women Group component connects the library with women and out-of-school girls through literacy, craft-making, and business training.

What we’re working toward

  • Establish women’s literacy sessions at Tank 65 Community Center twice a month.
  • Conduct craft-making training sessions four times per month.
  • Equip women with business skills to manage small enterprises effectively.
  • Encourage self-sustainability and resilience in a setting with scarce livelihood opportunities.

What this looks like

  • Weekly craft-making training sessions on Tuesdays
  • Twice-monthly literacy sessions on Thursdays
  • Business skills training and enterprise management support
  • Training and marketing phases for products and small businesses

Who it’s for

Refugee women and out-of-school girls in Zones 1 and 2 of Imvepi Refugee Settlement, supported by facilitators and part-time volunteers.

The difference it makes

  • Targeted literacy improvement so participants can read and write names and simple English texts.
  • Craft-making skills that can be applied practically and shared within the group.
  • A pathway for participants to begin small businesses and meet household needs.

Looking ahead

The six-month pilot can be extended based on impact, with monitoring through surveys, session reviews, volunteer reflection meetings, and reporting.
